The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) definition:
"Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program”

How do you become a Music Therapist?
Music Therapists must be Board Certified through the Certification Board of Music Therapists (CBMT) to identify and practice as a Music Therapist. MTs must complete the following educational and clinical milestones first:
Complete an approved undergraduate or masters equivalency program
Complete between 1200 and 1500 clinical hours (depending on program)
Receive a passing grade on internship and send qualifying records to CBMT to approve registration for exam
Upon a passing grade from exam, the Music Therapist will add on MT-BC to their name to represent their certification (Music Therapist - Board Certified)
